1957: Dr. Petuely recognises the bifidogenic activity of galactofructose and calls it the "bifidogenic factor".
1974 : Bown et al. demonstrate that galactofructose in infants causes lower intestinal pH levels.
1977 : Galactofructose becomes the reference treatment in the world for the most severe cases of hepatitis encephalopathy.
1993/94 : Anti-diabetes effect demonstrated.
Rinneetal describes the improvement of atopic manifestations in infants with low doses of galactofructose.
2005: Galactofructose is approved by the DGGCCRF as food ingredient.
2009 : The claims regarding prebiotic and transit effects, approved in 2006 by the federal Belgian authorities, are currently being evaluated by the EFSA.
